Rote Inc. helps repair shops recover full insurance payments

Rote Inc (YC W27) is building an AI-native insurance department for collision repair shops. Their AI turns insurer denials and short pays into strong supplement arguments in minutes.

Jun 17, 2026

Insurance claims in the auto repair industry are plagued by persistent negotiation friction. Repair shops submit detailed estimates, but insurers routinely challenge labor times, repair procedures, and coverage, resulting in denied or reduced payouts that are costly and time-consuming for independent shops to fight.

Rote Inc. is an early-stage startup building what it describes as an AI-native insurance department for repair shops. The company focuses on automating the full negotiation lifecycle between repair shops and insurers, with the goal of recovering revenue from denied or underpaid claims.

At its core, Rote’s AI agents analyze insurer denial documents, reference technical repair data (P-pages, DEG standards, etc.), and generate strong, well cited supplement arguments, often in minutes rather than hours. By turning a manual, expertise-heavy process into a structured, automated workflow, Rote levels the playing field against insurers who have dedicated claims teams and sophisticated systems.

The startup was founded in 2026 and is part of Y Combinator’s Winter 2027 batch. It is based in San Francisco and is currently in active development.

Rote’s founding team brings experience from both large-scale software systems and applied machine learning environments. Gabriel Castillo, one of the founders, previously worked on AI tools and automation systems at Apple and studied computer science at Cornell University. Aditya Mittal, the company’s CEO, also studied computer science at Cornell University and has worked on large-scale machine learning infrastructure, including projects at Apple and Toyota’s autonomous systems, as well as applied ML systems in defense and enterprise environments.

Together, the founders position Rote at the intersection of applied AI systems and regulated industry workflows, targeting one of the most operationally complex areas of the insurance ecosystem, claims negotiation and revenue recovery.

Rote sits at the intersection of agentic AI and complex regulated workflows, targeting one of the most operationally challenging areas in the insurance ecosystem, claims negotiation, and revenue recovery.

As one of the early players applying AI agents to legacy insurance processes in the auto repair sector, Rote reflects a growing trend of startups using specialized intelligence to tackle longstanding inefficiencies in traditional industries. It remains to be seen how effectively the technology scales and how insurers respond, but the company is worth watching in the YC W27 batch.
